What is a Medical Document?
Your Medical Document (MD) is the document provided to you by a clinic or health care practitioner, entitling you to access medical cannabis. Clients registered via a Medical Document are able to access cannabis products, with the exception of clones & seeds.
While sometimes referred to as a prescription, a Medical Document is technically in its own class of healthcare documentation, as cannabis alone has not been assigned a Drug Identification Number by Health Canada. Please note that this may affect how you claim cannabis on your insurance or taxes - you may reach out to us if you need assistance in completing those processes.
An MD, by law, must contain a signed statement, indicating a specific daily gram allotment, as well as a timeframe for which the document is valid.
Medical Documents can be valid for a period of up to one year, but can be as short as a few months - be sure to book your follow-up appointments well in advance to prevent a possible lapse in your medical registration!
Once you have been issued your Medical Document, you may have your clinic or health care practitioner submit it to us. You may also submit your own original Medical Document, if it is in your possession, via secure fax.
Once we have your Medical Document, and your completed Registration Application form, we are able to register you immediately!
How do I obtain a Medical Document?
In order to access cannabis for medical purposes from a licensed producer in Canada, applicants are required to submit a medical document signed by their health care practitioner.
We believe that registering for medical cannabis shouldn't be challenging - please reach out to our client care team via chat or email (clients@centralplainscannabis.com) if you have further questions or need assistance getting registered!
How do I transfer my registration from another licensed producer?
Medical cannabis patients are able to transfer their valid Medical Document between licensed producers without the intermediary step of seeing their physician.
As per Section 287 of the federal Cannabis Regulations, once requested by their client, a licensed producer is required to transfer a Medical Document without delay to the new licensed producer.
To transfer your Medical Document to Central Plains Cannabis, contact your current licensed producer (we recommend doing this via email, or in writing) and request that they fax your Medical Document & registration details to us via secure fax: (833) 261-9880.
While you're waiting for the transfer, ensure we can get your registered as soon as we receive it by completing our Registration Application.
If you encounter any challenges with your licensed producer transferring your registration, please contact us and we may be able to help.
What can I do if my clinic or healthcare practitioner refuses to send my Medical Document to Central Plains Cannabis?
This unfortunately still happens from time to time, and there are a variety of reasons why a physician or cannabis clinic may refuse to send your medical document to the provider of your choice.
It’s important to note that the medical document belongs to you and ultimately where you choose to access medical cannabis is up to you as well.
If your clinic insists on a specific Licensed Producer who is not your first choice, you can phone or email that provider and request that your Medical Document be immediately transferred to the provider of your choice. Licensed Producers are legally required to transfer medical documents when requested.
Please see reach out to our Support Team if you are facing challenges with the assignment of your Medical Document, and we may be able to provide assistance.
What is a Registration Certificate?
In order to produce cannabis for your own medical purposes you must apply to Health Canada and be issued a Registration Certificate.
This will allow you to grow a greater number of plants than the recreational limit of four or, in the case of Manitoba, permit you to grow cannabis at all.
Since seeds and clones are a means of producing cannabis, a Registration Certificate is required to purchase them on the Central Plains Cannabis Medical Cannabis Platform.
Please click here to view Health Canada's information hub on registering to produce or possess cannabis for your own medical purposes.
How do I apply for a Registration Certificate?
If you would like to apply for a Registration Certificate you will need to submit the following to Health Canada:
Your original medical document
While your application is being processed (it can take eight to twelve weeks), you may be issued a temporary certificate so that you are still able to purchase cannabis from your licensed producer.
Please click here to view Health Canada's information hub on applying for Registration Certificates.
What are some of the benefits of a Registration Certificate?
The Cannabis Act specifies that legal adults can grow up to four plants per residence - with the exception of the province of Manitoba - for recreational use.
A Registration Certificate approves you for more plants for individual medical use. Additionally, while you can purchase seeds recreationally through Central Plains Cannabis, only those registered with a Registration Certificate are permitted to purchase seeds (or clones) on Central Plains Cannabis’s medical side.
Registration Certificates also allow you to access a greater number of seeds, based on the number of plants that you are allowed to grow.
Health Canada’s present equivalency is 3 seeds to 1 plant, so for example, if your Registration Certificate permits you to grow 30 plants, you are permitted to purchase up to 90 seeds. For details surrounding how many plants you could be eligible to grow based on your daily gram allotment, please see Health Canada’s cannabis calculator.
Getting your Registration Certificate may be a path worth exploring if you would like to save money on your annual medical cannabis purchases!
How do I update the residential address on my medical account?
Once signed in, navigate to your profile by clicking your initials on the top right side of the page.
Once on your profile, on the left side, click 'Resources'.
From there, click "Amendment Form" to be taken directly to the change of information form.
Please allow 24-48 hours for our Client Care team to process the changes, prior to placing an order - you'll receive your updated registration details via email once the change is confirmed.
What types of payment are accepted?
We accept VISA, Mastercard, and American Express.
We also accept VISA Debit cards.
What if my transaction is not approved?
The most common issue we come across when customers try to make a purchase but are declined is due to the billing address on their order not matching what their credit card provider has on file for them - this is a failed AVS check.
If you try to make a purchase but get declined, stop and check the billing address on your order and make sure it matches the address your credit card provider has on file.
How are orders shipped?
By default, all packages are shipped via Canada Post Xpresspost, which means you will be given a tracking number and can expect your package within 3-5 business days.
Please note that when purchasing shipping, you are doing so through the shipping carrier; Central Plains Cannabis does not charge any additional fees for shipping, and once a package leaves our facility we no longer have control over it. Any delivery date guarantees come directly from the individual carrier.
Does Central Plains Cannabis guarantee that orders arrive on time?
Unfortunately, this is not something that we’re able to do at this time.
When purchasing shipping, you are doing so through the shipping carrier; Central Plains Cannabis does not charge any additional fees for shipping, and once a package leaves our facility we no longer have any control over it. Any delivery date guarantees come directly from the individual carrier.

You can also click here submit a Service Ticket with Canada Post- scroll down to Submit a Service Ticket (where it asks if you are the sender or receiver) to begin completing a digital service ticket. If you do this, reach out to our Support Team via clients@centralplainscannabis.com as well.
What happens if my item(s) deformed or melted during shipping?
All of our shipments are stored in a climate-controlled secure storage area, before they leave the building with the shipping carrier. As Canada Post is not offering signature-on-delivery due to the ongoing pandemic, parcels may be safe-dropped at your mailbox or doorstep.
Please be aware that, for parcels containing edibles like chocolates or gummies, prolonged exposure to heat may cause them to melt. While likely less visually appealing, these products will still be effective and safe to consume.
Central Plains Cannabis does not take any responsibility for products that have melted during transit, or while waiting for pickup, however; please contact our support team if this has happened as we may be able to advocate for you with the carrier.
What are the cut-off times for same-day shipments?
We are generally able to ship same-day orders, provided that they are placed prior to the shipping cut-off times:
Canada Post orders must be received prior to 11AM EST.
Please note that, during sales or other high-volume events, we may not be able to ship all orders same-day.
How do you verify identity on delivery?
Due to the sensitive nature of the products, all medical cannabis packages require signature upon delivery.
If you are not home to receive your order, Canada Post will leave you a Door Hanger notice and route your package to the nearest Post Office where you can pick it up. They will also need to see your government-issued photo ID.
Why can't I see certain products on Central Plains Cannabis?
Some product listings on Central Plains Cannabis have limited availability and are only accessible to clients in select provinces.
Due to current regulations, some products are limited in where they can be sold by provincial excise stamps.
Whenever possible, Central Plains Cannabis will strive to ensure availability nation-wide but if you cannot see a particular item, it is because it is not yet available in your region.
Vape Carts & Troubleshooting
How should I store my vape?
Vapes should be stored in their upright position, with the included rubber covers on both the mouthpiece, and battery-end.
Keep them at room temperature or slightly higher; this may help to decrease the viscosity and allow the oil to flow better through the vape.
Please do not leave your vape in a hot vehicle! This may cause the fluid to expand too much, and leak out of the cart.
How can I charge my vape battery?
To charge your new vape, gently twist the vape cart counter-clockwise to unscrew it from the battery. Next, twist the battery onto the charging port, and plug in - you can use the existing cable to charge via USB, or attach the USB to a power-block and plug it into a wall outlet.
My vape is not pulling correctly - what can I do?
A common issue with oil extracts is that the consistency is thick. This is because they are pure plant extracts, and tend to be viscous.
If your vape gets too chilled, the oil may be too viscous to pull effectively through the cart - hold the cart in the palm of your hands for 5-10 minutes to warm it up, and try again.
If your vape plugs and the above method does not unplug it, unscrew the cart from the battery, and use a clean metal paper-clip or safety pin to poke out both the battery-side, and the mouthpiece.
Are air bubbles normal?
Yes - there is normally a little air within the cart once the vape is filled, and that bubble slowly grows as you use more of the oil.
How many seeds / clones am I entitled to purchase?
Since Seeds and Clones are a means of producing cannabis, a Registration Certificate is required to purchase them on Central Plains Cannabis.
Clients registered with a Medical Document are not eligible to access medical cannabis seeds.
Per section 290 (2) of the Cannabis Regulations, three seeds are equivalent to one cannabis plant. This means your purchase of seeds may be limited based on the amount of plants you are eligible for under your Registration Certificate.
What does ‘remediation’ mean?
Remediation is a term for the many methods of sterilizing dried cannabis flower. The process is used to render the product medically sterile, which means levels of biologicals - like microbials, measured in Colony Forming Units (or CFUs) and Total Yeast/Mold (TYMs) - are rendered non-detectable in a laboratory analysis.
Central Plains Cannabis generally carries products that have been sterilized via eBeam processing, wherein products are subjected to a short, intense beam of sterilizing, high-energy electrons. Generally performed in a vacuum, a high-voltage potential is created using a positive and negative charge, resulting in the rapid movement of these electrons through the product.1
There are other forms of remediation used by both the cannabis industry and by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, including Gamma and X-ray radiation, which are both used regularly to sterilize onions, potatoes, wheat/wheat flour and imported spice blends.
Gamma irradiation uses a radioactive, or ‘fissile’, material - typically Cobalt-60 - to provide a tiny, controlled burst of ionizing radiation that is completely sterilizing.
Conversely, X-ray remediation utilizes photons within the X-ray spectrum, and allows for the same level of sterilization as Gamma irradiation but with penetrative X-rays, and adding less heat overall.
While not wholly sterilizing like the above methods, another treatment used to remediate cannabis is Radio Frequency Pasteurization. RFP uses an electromagnetic field generated via long radio waves, raising the temperature of the water within the cannabis rapidly, effectively killing most pathogens.

Is remediated cannabis radioactive?
No. Remediation via eBeam processing or Radio Frequency Pasteurization does not utilize fissile material at all, while Gamma and X-Ray exposure does not require the product to come in contact with radioactive material, and cannot leave any radiation behind. Gamma irradiation has so far proven not to affect the cannabinoid levels in dried flower.1

Why are some products remediated?
Some products are remediated to ensure they meet Central Plains Cannabis’s internal requirements for quality assurance, which are GMP-certified and to EU Pharmacopeia 5.1.8 standard.
Some dried flower products on Central Plains Cannabis have both a remediated and non-remediated option, to ensure that all medical clients are able to experience Central Plains Cannabis’s craft flower.
